seatselect

Select your seat in advance, get more space or a better location on Air New Zealand operated flights.

Enter your booking reference and family name below.

How do I seatselect?

It's simple, and there are several ways to seatselect:

You may have access to free Standard Seating as part of your fare or Airpoints™ status. If this is not available, or you would like a different seating option, you can purchase a seat of your choice using paid seatselect.

You can purchase seatselect at the time of booking or up until three hours prior to departure for international flights and up to 30 minutes prior for domestic flights.

If you would like to pay for seatselect with Airpoints dollars, you can do so at the time of booking.

Remember, you don't need to select your seat with your booking. We'll allocate one to you for free when you check in.

Seating options

Standard Seat

If you're an Elite, Gold, Elite Partner or Koru member, see below for more about what you can get.

Flying on theworks or worksdeluxe fare to the Tasman or Islands, or a domestic flexitime or flexidate fare? Choosing a Standard Seat is included in your fare. If you're travelling on a seat only or seat+bag fare on domestic, Tasman and Islands flights, you can select your preferred seat in advance using paid seatselect.

If you're travelling on a long haul international flight, your fare may include a standard seat or you can purchase one in advance using paid seatselect.

You can change your seat to another seat of same or lesser value at any time.

If you don't select your seat in advance, your seat will be allocated to you at check-in. If you are travelling on a long haul journey, you can access a Standard Seat free of charge, if available, when online check-in opens 24 hours before your flight.

See below or the fare rules pages for more information.

Preferred Seat

These seats are in preferred location on the aircraft with priority boarding privileges, and may also have extra legroom.

Exit Row Seat

Enjoy extra space in front to stretch out, and priority boarding privileges, too.

In case of emergency, you may need to activate the emergency exit door. As a result you must meet all applicable Civil Aviation (or other regulatory authority) regulatory and safety requirements and:

  • Be over 15 years of age
  • Have a good understanding of English
  • Be prepared to follow any instructions from the crew
  • Be physically able and willing to assist
  • Be free of any disability, condition or reduction in mobility that may prevent you from performing emergency exit functions
  • Strong enough and can safely open the exit door in the event of an emergency

If you book an exit row seat online, you need to confirm you meet these requirements.

You may also be assessed during check-in, at the departure gate or after you board your flight.

Please don’t be offended if we check your eligibility or ask you to move. The safety of everyone aboard is paramount.

Bassinet Row Seats

If you're travelling with an infant, paid bassinet seating* is a reassuring option for parents. Some seats in these rows have bassinet fittings designed for infants up to 8 months old and weighing a maximum of 11.8kg/26lb, subject to availability.

If you don't secure a bassinet during booking, we'll still do our best to allocate one to you at the airport if one is still available.

Bassinet dimensions are 29 inches (73.66cm) long x 13.5 inches (34.29cm) wide.

Airpoints™ Elite, Gold, Elite Partner and Koru members

As an Elite, Gold, Elite Partner or Koru member, you will enjoy access to complimentary frequent flyer premium seating. You'll find frequent flyer premium seating towards the front of our cabins on most Air New Zealand flights. Premium seating includes the Space+ zone on our domestic jet services and international A320 services, which comes with extra legroom, and is independent from the Preferred and Exit Row seating options.

These will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. We recommend you request your seat early at peak flight times and busy periods.

In addition, you have complimentary access to all available Standard Seats regardless of fare purchased.

When you book online, you'll need to be signed in or provide your Airpoints™ number on the Passenger Details page to have access to these seats.

If there are any Preferred or Exit Row Seats still available 48 hours before your flight, you can select them free of charge as bonus.

1 All Business class and Works Deluxe bookings receive complimentary Seat Select.

2 Please note Air New Zealand flights between Auckland and London contain two sectors, the prices in the table above are the cost to upgrade on a single sector.

Seat Select is only available on Air New Zealand operated flights and all Seat Select types are subject to availability. Prices quoted above are from prices only in Taiwan Dollars and are based on a per flight sector basis.

Can I change my paid seatselect after I've paid for it?

Yes, you can. This can be changed in a few different ways, either online by retrieving your booking, directly signing in to your Air New Zealand account, or through the Air NZ app. You can also change this by calling us, or via your travel agent. There's a small service fee to have our Contact Centre do this for you.

Please note, you won't be eligible for a refund if you select a seat of lower value, and if you choose a seat of higher value, you will be asked to pay the difference.
