Changing your booking
If you have another upcoming flight with us:
If you have a ticket booked for travel to/from and via Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Kerikeri, Whangarei, Rotorua, Taupo or New Plymouth, up to and including Friday, 17 February 2023, we are offering the following booking flexibility:
- Domestic travel: You will be able to change your travel to a date up to and including Wednesday, 22 February 2023 without fare difference, penalty, or service fees.
- International travel: You will be able to change your travel to a date up to and including Wednesday, 8 March 2023 without fare difference, penalty, or service fees. If travel is only available in a higher cabin, the fare differential will apply.
- You can change your booking to a different Air New Zealand origin or destination without penalty or service fees, however, any fare difference will apply.
We understand you may no longer wish to travel and so by going to the Manage Booking page you can enter your six-digit booking reference along with your family name, continue through to your booking and follow the instructions to hold the unused value of your ticket in credit. Your credit will be valid for 12 months from the date of issue.
Remember, you can also use the Air New Zealand app to view, change and manage your booking.
If you have booked through a travel agent, please contact them directly to make any changes.
Name Correction Policy
Name corrections will be handled by Air New Zealand on your behalf.
In general, the name entered at the time of booking must match the name shown in the machine-readable zone (MRZ) at the bottom of the passport.
Air New Zealand tickets are non-transferable. Tickets cannot be transferred to another person, and the passenger name cannot be changed to that of a different traveler.
For international flights, the name on the ticket must exactly match the passport.
For domestic flights, the name must match a valid form of identification.
For bookings made through a travel agent or agent website, all name corrections must be processed by the issuing agent through our Customer Contact Centre.

Minor Name Corrections
After ticket issuance, name corrections may be permitted if the following conditions apply and it is clearly the same passenger, with the error resulting from a booking mistake:
Spelling errors
Given name and family name entered in reverse order
Change between maiden name and married name, or adoption of spouse's surname
(supporting documents such as a marriage certificate and a valid passport are required)
If the spelling correction involves no more than three (3) characters, the correction may be processed.
Corrections exceeding three (3) characters will incur a NZD 50 name change fee.
Major Name Corrections
If the requested name is completely different from the original booking and is not a variation of the original name, approval is required and a name correction fee will apply.
All cases are subject to Air New Zealand's discretion and approval is not guaranteed.
In some cases, rebooking and purchase of a new ticket may be required.
Valid identification documents must be provided for verification.
Examples include:
Rebecca → Samantha
(completely different name; birth certificate and passport/driver's licence required)Changing a nickname to the full legal name shown on the passport
(birth certificate and/or passport required)Using a middle name instead of the given name at the time of booking
Name Changes Involving Itineraries with Other Airlines
Important Notice
If the itinerary includes flights operated by other airlines, name changes are not permitted.
Regardless of whether another airline advises that travel may be accepted, Air New Zealand will not be responsible for any denied boarding in such cases.
Name Character Restrictions
Important Notes
Name fields accept English letters only
No other characters are permitted
Minimum Character Requirement
If a passenger's family name consists of only one letter, please repeat the letter.
Example:
SS/JOHNMR (if applicable)
Maximum Character Limit (Long Name Handling)
The total name length must not exceed 28 characters, including the "/" and spaces.
Single-Name Passengers (No Family Name)
If a passenger does not have a family name:
Enter the name in the Family Name field
Enter the title in the Given Name field

Given Name field: MS
Family Name field: REBECCA
Displayed as: REBECCA/MS
Example 2

Given Name field: MS

Ticket Name Corrections
Maiden Name / Married Name Changes — Free of Charge
Name corrections between maiden name and married name (including reverting to a maiden name) may be processed free of charge, subject to submission of supporting documents and approval.
Name Corrections Following Gender Transition — Free of Charge
Passengers who have changed their name due to gender identity transition may request a free name correction, subject to submission of supporting documents and approval.
Other Scenarios Eligible for Free Name Correction
Name corrections may be processed free of charge if any of the following apply:
Spelling errors of no more than three (3) characters
Given name and family name entered in reverse order
Given name or family name entered in both fields due to an input error
(the error must clearly relate to the same passenger)Use of an abbreviated or shortened given name
Name Corrections for Single-Name Passengers
In some cases, single-name passengers booking online are required to select a title, resulting in duplicate titles displayed on the ticket.
Example:
Smith/Miss/Miss → corrected to Smith/Miss (free of charge)
Another scenario is when the same name is entered in both the Given Name and Family Name fields.
Example:
John/John → corrected to John/Mr (free of charge)
How to change my booking?
- If you have booked through a travel agent, please contact them directly to make any changes.
- For tickets purchased through Air New Zealand's official website, please submit a change application through Air New Zealand Customer Service Center 0080-185-2038 or email to resasia@airnz.co.nz, please include your name, booking reference number, email address and contact number .
Exchange your ticket for credits
